Writing On to Law Review

Writing on to law review is both a first and second year event. For ILs, there is a short write-on competition, usually in the spring. You write a casenote on comment on a topic of the editorial board's choosing. They give you all the cases and footnotes and you just have to organize it and write it. TRUST ME, you want to get on this way. For those who do not get on in the short write-on competition, there is a long write-on in the fall of your second year.

Moot Court or Law Review?

First my bias: I am president of our Moot Court Honors Board.

Q: With all this talk about employment, I thought I'd ask a question about the value of being on a moot court team.  Does anyone have any info they could share about how membership on a moot court team is valued in a job application?

This is only anecdotal but in the Fall, before moot court, I sent out about 30 letters looking for a summer clerkship.

Origin of the term Hornbook

"Hornbook" originally referred to a sort of instructional aid for children to learn how to read; "A child's primer consisting of a sheet of parchment or paper protected by a sheet of transparent horn," as defined in Webster's Dictionary.
