If you are entering law school this fall, why not give yourself the benefit of a mentor? More and more students are planning their approach to the study of law by reading up on their first year courses before they attend any classes. You can do this too, by reading a few books during the summer before starting law school. In this competitive world, you owe it to yourself to be as prepared as your future classmates will be. You're not in college anymore. Your law professors will take five minutes for introductory comments and then begin their lectures. So you'll be expected to be prepared right from the very first class meeting. You shouldn't gamble your first semester, experimenting with different study techniques once classes begin. Life will be easier and your results should be better if you already know how to to do things like brief a case before starting classes. But unlike your predecessors who were armed with typewriters and only read what they were told to before school, you have the advantage of some excellent materials that are available to you today.
For Investigating Law Study or Selecting a Law School, we recommend:
REA's Authoritative Guide to Law Schools
If you're still undecided about whether you should go to law
school, or which one(s) to apply to, here's the guidance you've been looking for.
Affordably priced at $18.95, this book provides a comprehensive guide to virtually all
North American law schools, large and small. Additionally covered are thoughts about what
you can do with a law degree, how to master the Law School Aptitude Test (generally not
required by the smaller, independent schools) and suggestions for financing your legal
education.

And Once You're Ready to Begin Classes, Take a Look at:
Blond's Law Guides
A series of 6 x 9 inch paperback books, each introduces you to a
specific course beginning with a chart that puts all of the major elements of the course
into relevant perspective. The chapters clearly, and in plain language, explain the
material so that you will have an understanding of the fundamental components of the
course before you begin school. Many of the cases that will be assigned by your professor
are summarized. You can read one of these books in a day by skipping the cases and
concentrating on just the text. Reasonably priced, one is available for each first year course.
